Root coverage/periodontal plastic procedures remain an integral part of periodontal practices today. The ongoing need to treat teeth with recession is driven by a desire to improve esthetics, reduce dental hypersensitivity, as well as prevent caries and address non-carious cervical lesions. There are a myriad of materials and techniques available to address this issue. But what is the best solution given the clinical situation at hand? This general session will begin by providing a literature basis for how to best approach this problem. Clinical cases demonstrating the application of varying materials will be presented along with selecting the optimal protocol(s) to achieve predictable root coverage.
• Discuss the current literature evidence on root coverage and where complete root coverage should be expected.
• List the various materials that can be used and where they should be appropriately implemented.
• List where the various approaches should be considered i.e., tunnel versus flap with biomaterial versus coronally advanced flap alone to achieve optimal root coverage.
• Discuss whether or not biologics might be considered as adjuncts to therapy.
