This presentation will focus on the two aspects of crown lengthening procedure: functional and esthetic. What works and doesn’t work? The thought process, communication methods, and techniques necessary to achieve ideal esthetic and healthy prosthetic reconstruction of the maxillary anterior region will be addressed.
Functional crown lengthening is still an important treatment modality when used appropriately. However, the success of dental implants has reduced the need for functional crown lengthening. Deepening your understanding of the criteria for success when determining to remove or restore a tooth utilizing functional crown lengthening as well as the ferrule effect will allow you to effectively communicate with your referring dentists.
Comprehensive treatment planning of the aesthetic restorative case can be challenging. Ideal treatment involves treatment of the teeth, gingiva, and bone. The key to success is to understand and develop predictable strategies in patient care.
